Art & Music Program

Art Program

The Art Department is located next door in the SHS Arts Center.  The Sacred Heart Art Program is unique to both public and private schools in the Roslindale and offers the following:

  • Over the course of the year, scholars in grades K0-8 learn age appropriate facets of color, line, design and perspective.

  • The instructor is a professional artist from the Roslindale and Hyde Park Art Alliances.  Our scholars participate in the Roslindale Open Studios as well as art competitions statewide. 

  • Scholars are guided in proper use of materials and techniques and are encouraged to work from imagination, inspiration, and replication.

  • Art history lessons are interwoven into the standard curriculum to expand the scholars’ appreciation of important artists and art movements.

  • Artists and art movements explored include Jasper Johns, watercolor artist Andrew Wyeth, and Pablo Picasso’s Blue period works.

  • Mediums used include: graphite pencils, acrylic paint, colored pencils, watercolor paint. markers, clay, pastels, and 3D object construction

Music Program

The Sacred Heart School Music Program is located in the Arts Center.  Our music teacher leads the Children’s Choir at the Church, as well as the Scholar Choir here at Sacred Heart School.    

Weekly classes include:   

  • Liturgical music

  • An introduction to music terminology and theory 

  • Promoting appreciation and love of music by singing, listening, and moving to the music

  • Encouraging creativity by composing and improvising music

  • Connecting music to history, science, grammar, and foreign languages

  • Motivating scholars by organizing field trips and in-school concerts

  • Providing opportunities for scholars to sing in choirs and/or ensembles

  • Expending knowledge by performing Christian, classical, pop, seasonal,  and modern music
